02/02/2008 Another early start got myself, Jean, and Wayne back out to Timber Falls for some climbing before the StupidBowl. No one around and great climbing once again. That giant pillar that Tom and I climbed onto last time (pictures below under 01/20/2008) had fallen at some point in the last couple of weeks, glad we weren't around for that!
01/20/2008 Dreading ski traffic on I70 we (Jean, Beth, Keith, and myself) left Parker
at 5:30am and got to Vail to meet Tom at Timber Falls without a hint of traffic.
Certainly worth waking up at the butt-crack of dawn! A short and super steep
hike up to the falls got us to the ice in warm temps (considering it's January)
and blue skies. Tom lead up the gentle ice on the right and set up a couple top
ropes. Next was hours of fun! We all took turns on the various routes pushing
our limits and getting pumped arms. The center pillar was touching, but not fat
enough to start from the bottom. Instead, it was possible to climb up about 15
feet along side of it, then do a hair-raising stretch and balancing act over to
it. Both Tom and I were able to do it, but were so tired afterwards we didn't
have the juice to continue up much farther.
