<Day 3>
07/17/03
After hearing how fabulous the views are all around Grindelwald I was couldn't
wait to check it out and kept waking up just to look out the window.
Unfortunately, every time I looked out it was cloudy, foggy, and barely
raining. Still nice to be in Switzerland though?! After a much needed huge
breakfast Peggy and I walked down through the main part of town in the drizzle
and back. I kept hoping that the fog would burn off, but no luck. We all rode
the Pfingstegg gondola up and did a hike farther up the valley towards the
Unterer Grindelwardgletscher and eventually to the Stieregg resturant for beers
and soup with sausage. It's pretty wild that in the middle of nowhere along a
trail you would come across an enormous stone resturant! The clouds lifted
enough for us to see the headwall of the glacier and a huge waterfall. Instead
of the gondola, we hiked down eventually getting to the river that drains from
the glacier and through town. All the houses look just like you would imagine a
Swiss house to look like. It wasn't long before dinner and devising a plan for
the following days climbing.
